Kashim Shettima Mustapha (born September 2, 1966) is the 15th and current vice president of Nigeria. He previously served as a senator for Borno Central from 2019 to 2023 and as the governor of Borno State from 2011 to 2019.
Shettima was born in Maiduguri and studied at the University of Maiduguri and the University of Ibadan. After his education, he worked in business and banking, eventually becoming the manager of Zenith Bank's Maiduguri branch. In 2007, he entered politics, joining the cabinet of Governor Ali Modu Sheriff. Shettima was elected governor in 2011, and re-elected in 2015. His tenure was marked by the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency. In 2019, he left office and was elected senator. However, in 2022, he withdrew from his senate nomination to become Bola Tinubu’s vice presidential running mate.
