Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio (born December 9, 1962) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician currently serving as the 15th president of the Nigerian Senate, a position he has held since 2023. He was first elected as senator for Akwa Ibom North-West in 2015, lost his re-election bid in 2019, and returned to the Senate in 2023. Akpabio previously served as the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022, when he resigned to pursue his Senate re-election. Before his ministerial role, he was the Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015.
